Unit Two: Short Story -- Overview

Students will be introduced to the five components of short stories by reading a variety of stories and examining plot, character, theme, and setting.  Through the study of point of view, students will question the reliability of a narrator.   Identifying conflict, style, dialogue, and methods of description in selected short stories will also be addressed.  In addition, focus will be placed on analyzing tone, symbols, the use of irony, allusion, and figurative language in fictional selections.
