Unit Three: Overview
The focus of Unit Three is literature of the Civil War and the frontier (1850-1914) in three parts. Part One features literature of Bierce and Crane along with spirituals, primary sources and narrative nonfiction by authors such as Lincoln, Lee, Sojourner Truth, and Douglass. Part Two, Forging new Frontiers, highlights Mark Twain, Jack London, and primary sources by Chief Joseph. Part Three, Living in a Changing World, includes Paul Laurence Dunbar, Robinson, Chopin, Masters, and Cather.
